In July 2023, the Richard A. Henson Foundation pledged a groundbreaking matching challenge for the Hagerstown Aviation Museum, with the potential to secure up to $1.5 million in matching funds from the Henson Foundation over the next several years.
The first $1 million of the challenge focuses on the capital campaign and accompanying renovations from 2023 through 2025. Additionally, $500,000 in matching funds are available to support a brand-new endowment, which will be used to augment the museum’s operating expenses as necessary and ensure its long-term success.

Overall Campaign Goal:
Since purchasing the 1943 Fairchild Flight Test Hangar outright in early 2023, a multitude of renovations and restorations have taken place with the goal of opening the museum to visitors in late 2023. Referred to as "phase one," these efforts focused primarily on health and safety items, ADA compliance, fire suppression, lead remediation, and other key initiatives. Continued support to reach our $6 million goal will enable the museum to execute "phase two" of its capital projects, including expansion of exhibits, relocation of the archives and library, and creation of classrooms.
